Grandpa Pencil's Recipe

Chilli Con Carne


Chilli Con Carne


  • 1 dessertspoon Oil
  • 1 large Onion
  • Garlic to your taste
  • 450 ml can Tomato Soup
  • 450 g Minced Steak
  • 250 g can Red Kidney Beans
  • 1/2 teaspoon chilli Powder
  • Salt to taste


 You will need
A can opener, a frying pan, a sharp knife, a cutting board and a wooden spoon


  • Chop the onion, crush the garlic and mix well with the meat, with your (clean) hands
  • Add to a pan of hot oil and move with a wooden spoon until the meat is well browned
  • Pour off surplus fat
  • Add undiluted tomato soup, chilli and salt
  • Simmer gently for 10 to 15 minutes until meat is tender
  • Add undrained kidney beans and heat through
  • Serves well with crusty French bread and a tossed salad
